Preparing for Success in the Port Jefferson Spring Real Estate Market

wreath_decorations_christmas_1087749_hThe spring real estate market is a busy time when buyers and sellers have come out of holiday hibernation and get serious about buying a home or selling a home in Port Jefferson. You might be thinking that spring is so far away with the holiday season still weeks off, but now is the time when Port Jefferson home sellers need to start thinking about their strategies for success in the spring real estate market.

When you think of spring, you likely think of warmer, rainy days and Port Jefferson starting to bloom into beauty for the summer months. However, Port Jefferson home sellers will need to list their homes much before the area defrosts. If you can believe it, spring in real estate starts heating up in February! While my marketing strategies have proven to help homes move quickly, you’ll still want to give yourself plenty of time if you want to be able to relocate over the summer.

So, what can you do now to make sure you’re prepared to tackle the competition in the Port Jefferson real estate market this spring? Take advantage of the less-desirable weather outside and do some repairs around the house. Sticky doors, torn screens or a dripping faucet may be overlooked day-to-day but be sure to keep an eye out for these minor repairs. Fix them as you notice them to avoid giving potential home buyers a bad impression.

You’ll also want to de-clutter your Port Jefferson home. Clutter not only distracts potential home buyers, it also gives the illusion of a smaller space. But wait; don’t throw it all in the closets! Take on your closets one by one and clean them out. Opening up a closet door and having your belongings spill out won’t impress a buyer during a showing.

The first thing home buyers looking for their next Port Jefferson property will notice about your home is the entry. Just because its winter doesn’t mean you can’t boast great curb appeal. Give your front door a fresh coat of paint and hang a wreath to add interest. Don’t forget to make sure your sidewalk is shoveled (and salted!) and remove any leaves or branches from your front yard.

I know this all seems daunting, but if you take on a project per weekend you won’t feel overwhelmed. You will be ahead of the game once the holidays are over and home buyers start scouring the Port Jefferson real estate market for their next home.

If you need any guidance on where to begin preparing for the spring market, please let me know! Of course if you need to sell your home more quickly and aren’t able to wait for the spring, I help my clients sell their Port Jefferson homes all year. Contact me today to get started!
