Port Jefferson’s Dynamic Downtown

I may be biased, but I think Port Jefferson is truly the best place to live on Long Island. Even though it was voted as the third best downtown according to the Long Island Press, Port Jefferson is definitely at the top of my list. I mean, how lucky are we to have a walkable village with everything we need right here in town? From dozens of unique shops to every type of restaurant to the great parks our city boasts, there’s no other place I’d rather help home buyers find their dream homes.

I’ve mentioned it before and I’ll say it again: Port Jefferson has some amazing shopping! Everyone needs to indulge in a little retail therapy once and a while and the downtown section of Port Jefferson doesn’t disappoint. From unique boutiques with one-of-a-kind items to old favorites like the Gap, you’re sure to find something to fit your style and budget. Whether you’re preparing for a date in one of Port Jefferson’s many bars or restaurants (more on that later), your first day at a new job or just feel like picking out something special (you deserve it!), downtown Port Jefferson has something for everyone. Even if you just need to scoop up a gallon of milk, Village Grocery is a wonderful resource for last minute convenience items.

116309If you’re headed out for a night on the town, nightlife in Port Jefferson is second to none. Be entertained by live music at Port Jazz while enjoying the beautiful ambiance. Schafer’s is another great place for enjoying a drink with friends and listen to some tunes with dueling pianos from 8pm – 11pm every Friday and Saturday night. For a more casual outing, make sure to check out Tommy’s Place which has plenty of screens to watch the game. Billie’s is another option for a casual night out with friends where you can relax and head to Tara’s for a game of pool and a super cheap and hearty meal!

Personally, I can’t wait for the new waterfront restaurant to open on the west end of the harbor. It has new siding and landscaping and is looking great! The warmer months in Port Jefferson present even more fun for residents of all ages. I love to spend time with my kids at Rocket Ship Park which has an extensive playground area and basketball courts. Harborfront Park gives you the chance to play ship captain or pretend to swim with the dolphins (or enjoy a spray from the turtles to cool off in the summer).

No matter what time of year it is, there is plenty to see and do in downtown Port Jefferson. And when the Long Island Music Hall of Fame opens, watch out Huntington! We’re coming after first place for the best Long Island downtown. If you’re thinking about moving to Port Jefferson, let me show you what a great place it is to start a family, retire or just explore a new area. There’s something for everyone in Port Jefferson so feel free to give me a call to learn more about our community or to start looking for your new home!
