Can you believe it’s already mid-December? There are only a handful of days left to finish up your holiday shopping and make any last minute arrangements with friends and family for the big day. In the midst of all the hustle and bustle that comes along with this time of year, everyone is filled with anticipation as they imagine giving and getting gifts, indulging in a bunch of wonderful food, and spending time with loved ones. While the holiday season is the best time to think of others, Port Jefferson is offering plenty of ways to truly give back to those who need it the most.
While you’re making your way down your shopping list, be sure to stop by Pattern Finders in one of the historic buildings on East Main Street of Port Jefferson. Also known as Stacy’s Finds, the refreshing and unique boutique is accepting donations of clothing, gift cards and toys for the less fortunate children of Long Island. The items will benefit the needs of over 4,000 Long Island children. Last year, owner of Pattern Finders Stacy Davidson, helped fulfill the needs of 50 children. This year, let’s help her make it to her goal of 75 (or more!)
With all the stress of finding the perfect gifts for everyone on our lists, it’s easy to forget about our four-legged friends. Make it a point this year to provide a special gift to our furry community who could really use your help. Fetch Doggie Boutique & Bakery is holding its annual Pet Food Drive, as many local animal shelters are in dire need of a variety of pet supplies. These items include but are not limited to dry and canned food, leashes, beds, toys, bowls, collars and more. Bring your donations to one of the five drop-off locations including Chase Bank on Main Street and Fetch Doggie Boutique & Bakery on East Main Street in Port Jefferson.
You’re really in the giving spirit now, aren’t you? Keep up the momentum by making your way over to Greentique, the eco-friendly boutique/artisan shop that is accepting items for families in need. Proceeds will benefit Blanca’s House, an organization dedicated to helping families without access to modern healthcare.
Train Exhibit at Bell Terre Community Center is another location offering the opportunity to give back, as they will be accepting donations benefiting the Toys for Tots efforts. Donations are welcome through December 22 so make sure to drop off your items before the cut off! In addition to Toys for Tots, Curves in Port Jefferson Station is holding its 5th annual coat drive. The drive is requesting clean, and gently used coats for donation.
It’s great to live in a place like Port Jefferson that holds strong values on giving back to the community. While Port Jefferson Real Estate is my forte, I am also known for providing some good community news here and there. For more information on the Port Jefferson community, stay in touch with my blog. I’m sure there will be plenty more activities coming up in the next couple of weeks.
