Can you believe it’s June? Memorial Day marked the unofficial start of summer, and now the activity in Port Jefferson, NY is really starting to pick up. While summer doesn’t actually start until June 20, there are plenty of activities and events going on in Port Jefferson to celebrate the long awaited season.  From boating, movies on the harbor, picnics, concerts and farmer’s markets, there is truly something for everyone to enjoy this summer in Port Jefferson. Oh, and we of course cannot forget about the beach!

Movies on the Harbor: Movies on the Harbor returns to Port Jefferson at Harborfront Park on Tuesday, July 10th! Opening night will be a screening of “Hugo” with many weeks to follow all the way through August. Included in the schedule will be family classics such as Harry Potter and The Muppets, and all-around must-sees like Moneyball, Footloose, Kung Fu Panda 2 and more. Bring your blankets and good company!

Farmer’s Markets: Hooray for the return of farmer’s markets! Get your fresh produce, bread, plants and more all summer long. The farmer’s markets also feature live music, how cool is that? These take place every Sunday from 9am-1pm. If you haven’t stopped by yet, please do! This year’s vendors include Goodale Farms, Pickle Packin Papa, Kerri’s Cupcakes, Polka Dot Pound Cake and Delpozzo Foods, just to name a few.

Concert Series: The sounds of Long Island’s finest musical talents really bring the town together at the Summer Harborside Concert Series. Bring your lawn chairs, blankets and refreshments to Memorial Park every Thursday at 8pm. The concerts kick off June 28. I hope to see you there.

Beach: Bring your sunscreen and your favorite beach gear and enjoy summer fun and sun at Port Jeff Village Beaches. This is the time of year we’ve all been waiting for – and the doors open June 23. Planning a large group trip to the beach? Grab one of the beach’s group party areas (permit required for groups of 15 or more) and kick back. Remember, parking stickers are required and lifeguards are on duty daily from 10am-6pm.
