    Now, onto to discover a bit about Wading River, New York.

    Wading River a hamlet ~ comes from the original Algonquian name for the area, Pauquaconsuk, meaning “the place where we wade for thick, round-shelled clams”. “Wading in the River” or Wading River was adopted by the first English colonists.

    If you haven’t been to Wading River lately – you must !  Serving as the gateway to Long Island’s agricultural East End, and located about 70 miles east of New York City, there is so much to do and see in Wading River and nearby!

    The Peconic Herb Farm, is a magical place situated on 14 riverfront acres to shop for plants, unique gifts, or just to bring a picnic and enjoy the scenery and a walk amongst the lush foliage.

    Pick-your-own Farms are a plenty starting in Wading River.  Condzella’s (located across the street from CVS on North Country Road) or Lewin Farm located at 812 Sound Avenue are wonderful choices to reconnect with your food and where it comes from.   Enjoy the day Spring, Summer or Fall picking Strawberries, multiple varieties of beans, tomatos, and apples, or pumpkins depending on your fancy.

    Situated between Town of Riverhead and Town of Brookhaven, Wading River has sterling beaches, beautiful ponds and many wonderful outdoor attractions! From Wildwood State Park – where one can pitch a tent or bring in a trailor for a relaxing camping experience to The Great Rock Golf Club!  Swing those clubs and enjoy a day on one of the most beautiful courses on Long Island! Don’t forget the fabulous restaurants that attract so many to this hamlet ~ Amarelle’s ( ( 631) 886-2242 ) and La Plage ( (631) 744-9200 ) , both featuring amazing gourmet cuisine.

    It’s not all country in Wading in River though! 

    Within 10 minutes you can take a walk on the wild side and try sky diving at SkyDive in Calverton, or dive under the sea at Atlantis Marine World.   Shop till you drop at the largest Outlet center in the Nation!  With almost 200 stores at nearby Tanger Outlets Riverhead ,  you can find Pottery Barn, Williams Sonoma, Off Fifth (Saks), and Restoration Hardware to name a few.

    Tired of the many nearby beaches?  Cool off on a hot summer’s day, and bring the whole family to Splish Splash Water Park where they have over a dozen exciting water slides, and this year they have added a second wave pool with 4-foot waves big enough to body surf all day!  Or for a more relaxing jaunt, check out the Pool and Spa at East Winds Inn.  You can enjoy food and drink from room service as you relax by the indoor heated pool. As a day spa guest, take advantage of a leisurely dip between spa treatments. The Inn also offers pool and fitness memberships open to the public for local residents.
