2012 Interior Design Forecast

Doesn’t it seem like just yesterday we were watching the ball drop, counting down the seconds to 2011 and 365 days of…to be determined? It’s hard to believe, but we’ve come full circle and will ring in 2012 with the same anticipation and optimism for the New Year in just a couple of days. For many of us, each New Year comes with resolutions, goals and predictions. I’m predicting we’ll see a hot spring real estate market here in Port Jefferson! Like with all predictions, we’ll just have to wait and see how the season unfolds.

If you have plans to sell your Port Jefferson home this year or if you’ve finally decided to stop renting and settle down, you’ll want to keep reading to get a glimpse of the hottest interior design trends for 2012. Home sellers, take note! Staging your home to sell is an important part of the selling process. Staying on top of what’s popular in interior design will help make your home more appealing to potential buyers. Are you looking to buy a home in Port Jefferson this year? You’ll want to stay in the loop so you’ll have fresh ideas and can start making your house a home as soon as you step inside.

    Colors:
orange_livingroom_718257_hI hope you like purple! It’s showing up everywhere from curtains to pillows to furniture. Green and orange are two other hues that are making a statement in interior design showrooms for 2012. For those who are hesitant to make a big change, try adding accent pillows or picture frames in a bold color to test the waters. Taupe is a beautiful neutral that creates a nice backdrop to the more intense colors forecasted for this year.

    Patterns:
Floral patterns are no longer confined to drapery and upholstery. Beautiful blooms will be popping up on wallpaper and tile in an array of surprising colors. Need some inspiration? Try adding floral to your bathroom. Port Jefferson interior designers like Lisa Aiello of Rich Designs Inc. can help you find gender neutral options that will please everyone in your household. On the other end of the design spectrum, exciting black and white contrasts are present in unexpected patterns this year. Don’t be afraid to experiment!

    Style:
The right accent piece can do wonders for a room in need. This year, late 19th-century furnishings will be a popular trend. Lucky for us in Port Jefferson, Eva has opened a downstairs portion of her interior design showroom that has retail at least 25% off. Home and Garden Co. “Downstairs” has a beautiful and eclectic mixture of home accessories, furnishings and antiques that you won’t find anywhere else. I picked up a few things there just before Christmas and encourage everyone to stop in and check it out.

While landscaping isn’t technically under the umbrella of interior design, I did want to mention the beautiful work Ogden’s does. In the company’s own words, “Your garden is an extension of your home and of yourself…” Consider taking a look at what they can offer towards your Port Jefferson home’s exterior appeal whether it’s a lush design to surround a pool, the creation of a stone walkway or some beautiful blossoms to brighten up your back yard.

As we close the book on 2011, I want to thank all of my clients and colleagues for a fantastic year!
